Virginia: Yorktown

We drove through Virginia to Yorktown in hopes of catching a glimpse into war history. We knew we'd arrived when we looked out the window to our right to see a large field with a white flag raised, a few old cannons, and placards that would tell the story of what was. After getting out of the car, we were instantly overwhelmed with history. The air was still. You could almost hear the cannons bursting and imagine clouds of smoke billowing into the air with exhaustion. The white flag waiving in victory in the distance. All we could do was tip toe around and whisper our thoughts to each other.

After paying our respects, we headed down the road to the welcome center to grab our sticker. The woman working the counter gave us the run down on how to see the most of the town's history in the least amount of time. We took a nice 20 min drive passing through areas marked with placards highlighting important parts of the battle on our way to the cannons.

These are the cannons we stole from the British when they lost the Battle of Yorktown.

After admiring the stolen goods, we felt like we could use something to eat so we looked for a top rated diner close by and ended up at Pops.

Cute little place, cash only, big portions, and prices listed as if it was still 1935. Good decent food and super friendly staff! Great representation of the South.

After our trip back in time, we headed our 5 hours south to North Carolina to meet up with my aunt and uncle :)
