Tennessee: Memphis

We got to Memphis around 5pm CT to check out the infamous Beale St. and eat some great BBQ and ended up finding out they were showing old cars today!

The south has so much culture. Walking down Beale street reminds us of Old town Vegas except not as crazy because it was a Tuesday. After walking up and down the street checking out the cars, the jazz music, and the shops, we worked up quite an appetite for some quality southern food! I'd been yelping the best food on and around Beale and was getting mixed reviews. However, Blues City Cafe sounded like a great spot so we went.

The place was packed with people. Always a great sign. We ordered catfish and ribs which was a special they had that most first timers ordered and it was pretty delicious. The ribs were the fall-off-the-bone type, and the catfish was seasoned and breaded perfectly. Honestly though, my mom makes some killer ribs and both Chris and I agreed that we actually liked her's better.

We went to grab beers after we ate to try the local taps. Not only do we love coffee, we are serious about beer as well! We both ordered tall ones to walk around with (yeah it's like Vegas there). I ordered a wheat beer that wasn't bad but also wasn't that great. Chris ordered a local IPA that literally tasted like he was drinking maryjane. It was awful. I wish I had a picture of his face every time he tried to keep drinking it.

We were too full to drink all that beer anyways. We continued walking around and taking photos of statues and the architecture and listening jazz musicians and singer songwriters belting their hearts out. We had to stop for a photo when we found Coyote Ugly. Though I know this isn't THEE original location.

Cannoy help but get "Walking in Memphis" stuck in your head the entire time you are there. It's in my head now just writing about it!

We had a great time and we are really glad that we stopped here. Pro Tip: Memphis is not the safest place for anyone--not just traveler's so make sure you are prepared and you don't stay too late unless you are with a group of people and have a location you are going to next. That being said we left before it got too late (maybe 9:30) and headed out to Nashville because there's lots to see there.
