Austin: Texas

We got to Austin around 1pm and stopped for BBQ at blacks barbecue the oldest BBQ in Texas. Line was about 30 mins but it was worth it because the food was delicious. $56 for two of us.

After lunch we headed to Rainey st. and enjoyed beer at a place with train cars.

After, we walked down to the beautiful capital building.

Then we ventured down 6th street both ways in search of our precious car sticker. No luck. Some of the places we go and can't find a sticker will have to be ordered on amazon.

I was looking for cowboy boots on my phone to find a place but it was Sunday and Mother's Day so most places were closed. I looked up as we were walking through the gay district and there was a trailer shop with boots and flip flops!

They were super nice and comfy but I couldn't decide on a size or design so I decided not to get them. I did convince Chris to get $35 leather flip flops though!

We headed back to Rainey st to get more beer and see live music.

We saw a hip hop electro cover duo play and drank local beers. Walked down to the end of the block and got one more beer. Meh. The bartender there did a similar trip to ours last year and said it's the best thing he ever did. So cool!

For dinner we made plans to go to "The Oasis" so we could enjoy the incredible sunset and have some appetizers and relax before getting back on the road again.

2 hour wait at the regular restaurant so we went to the bar and ordered a pretzel and chips.

We watched some good live music--country band from California. We left the restaurant around 9:30 to try and get more miles in. Made it to a 24 hr truck stop in Lampasas Tx (yeah I had never heard of it either). We lasted about 30 mins in our truck before we couldn't take the heat and humidity any longer. Chris booked us a room across the street at the Country Inn.

One star hotel. Chris told me specifically not to Yelp it because apparently all the reviews said it was roach infested. Needless to say we slept on top of the bed in our sleeping bags. Thank the lord the AC worked! 2nd longest and worst night of sleep on the whole trip. But we survived! Checked out late and headed to Amarillo so we could see the famous Route 66!
